This web site has been put together by Peter Laker, the purpose of this site is to make available some of the programs I have produced over the years and knowledge of CAD I have gained.
A bit about myself. I started out my working life as a Structural Steel Fabricator, I did a 4 year apprenticeship with Bendigo Steel Constructions in central Victoria and spent another 10 years or so in the trade. During that time I obtained several welding certificates, Dog Man, Crane Chaser and Rigging certificates. During the last few year in the trade I became interested in drafting when working as a leading hand & foreman.
I did a few computer CAD classes at TAFE and not long after that bought my first PC which was a 386 with 36 MB of ram and around a 400MB hard drive (this is very hard to imagine these days) loaded up with AutoCAD version 9. Yes that's where it all started back around 1988 how things have changed since then.
I started my own business LAKER DRAFTING SERVICE around this time and ran it from our home in Bendigo for around 15 years. We specialized in steel detailing for the fabrication industry, during our time in business our most notable job would of been the steel work on the roof of Stadium Australia in Sydney for the 2000 Olympics.
In the second half of 2003 we closed our business & moved to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland to the warmer weather. While living there I worked for Alpetros Design and spent around 4 years using StruCAD and a little bit of AutoCAD. You will notice that none of my programs support AutoCAD 2004, 2005, 2006 this is because I seldom used it during that period.
At the end of 2007 we moved to the Gold Coast. I'm currently working for Cad Tech Australia as a Steel Detailer. Cad Tech Australia are the Authors of the steel detailing software program called The Shop Detailer which is an AutoCAD based steel detailing program.
Since I have been working back with AutoCAD it has given me the opportunity to get back into some programing in my spare time. It has been 5 or 6 years since I have worked on my old programs so I have decided it was time for a name change, so PxCad was born and here we are today.
